ETC.: -Founder/Creative Director of international media firm MG | International
I grew up in Charlottetown, P.E.I., and Hamilton, Ontario. Despite being severely limited in how much media (TV, internet, etc.) I engaged as a kid, I was always drawn to the communication arts. As far back as I can remember I, with my siblings presented recitals, air bands, magic shows, theatrical performances, etc. etc. to a sold out living room. I started studying piano when I was 4, and began designing boats, planes, cars, and other unique inventions shortly thereafter. Driven by a rapidly developing passion for politics, I designed my own fictional nation around age 10, complete with parliamentary government, detailed economic infrastructure, and a raging pop culture.
Upon reaching high school–I became heavily involved in theatre, improv comedy, pop/rock music (recording/producing/performing), and eventually film production. I produced my first film in grade 12 for an assignment, and immediately found the medium to be one of my greatest loves.
Undergraduate university was in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Calvin College is a private, liberal arts university based in the Calvinist philosophy of education and theology. While at Calvin, I completed a major in media studies, and a major in music (choral conducting), with a minor in international development studies. The five years I spent at Calvin were the most stimulating years of my life so far. During my university studies, I met some of the most incredible friends in the world, I had opportunities to travel extensively, and I produced several short films. These films were mostly made for fun in 44 and 24 hour competitions, but actually went on to screen in festivals in Germany–even winning an award for ‘best new filmmaker’ in Nuremberg. Through these experiences, I became convinced that there was a value in my pursuing the development of my own media firm. In my final year at university, I laid the groundwork for my company, and in July 2007, I registered World Media Red and began operations.
As of January 1, 2009, World Media Red has been rebranded as MG | International.
My future goals are wide-ranging, ambitious, and completely unrealistic. For these reasons, I’m happy to pursue them. I hope to produce and direct multiple award-winning films (including at least 1 bollywood film!!!), direct live staged shows, and to continue producing music. I hope to serve as an engine for redevelopment in Hamilton, I hope to build a corporate empire that will always value humanity above the bottom line, and I hope to serve in public office as a passionate and inspired voice for the Canadian people. I also hope to work out more, to keep driving vw diesels, and to enjoy Sunday coffee again with my family in the near future
cheers,
mg
